I am a cyclist that competes and rides everyday. This task was not an easy one, after training for an up coming race, I started to have problems and pain in my lower heal. This pain was caused by my cycling shoes. They are great shoes don’t get me wrong, I have been using them for years, but they didn’t seem to have enough padding.

After resting my feet and not training for a few weeks, I wasn’t sure if I would ever be able to ride at that same level I was riding. Word got around that I was out due to an injury. An old friend of mine introduced me to LiquiCell Shoe Insoles and right away they eliminated the pain in my foot and the soreness. I use them in my cycling shoes and now ride pain free. I have even introduced them to other riders and they have had the same results. The insoles have liquid at the ball of the feet that provides the comfort. I use them for walking and running as well.

The thing that I liked was that they were very thin. They did not change the size of my shoes. These insoles had a gel like liquid embedded at the ball of the feet and the heels.

I am in a retail business in a supermarket and I have to be on my feet all day long. I was simply amazed at the end of the day to notice that my feet did not hurt at all. In a couple of days of wearing them I noticed that there was less pressure on my ankles and knees. I have tried other water based insoles. The problem with them is that when you step forward the water moves back and forth. With these LiquiCell Shoe Insoles, the liquid stays at the ball of the feet and heel providing a cushiony feeling all the time.

I had tried various other orthotics and insoles but I was always looking for something better.
My custom made orthotics used to hurt if I wore them for more than a couple of hours and I never could get used to them. They used to create a pressure at the bottom of my feet. I also tried the bulky gel insoles. They felt good for a few minutes, but my feet still hurt. After a few weeks the gel got harder and they took too much room in my shoes.

The long hours on being on my feet was taking a toll. I used to go home tired and had to rub my feet. I am so happy that I found these insoles.

Highly recommended! I don’t have to rub my feet anymore. -Ron, Newport Beach, CA

It was brought to my attention that the insoles in my running shoes were not doing the job. After years of this, I finally decided to try out the LiquiCell Shoe Insoles and I noticed right away that the soreness in my feet was gone.

Now I don’t dread the 10 mile runs, with these insoles I feel like I am running on a cloud. This product I would recommend to anyone young or old, athlete or not!” -Jon T.

I had never heard such a fancy word like Plantar Fasciitis. In Fact I even had troubled pronouncing it when I was suddenly struck by Plantar Fasciitis!

I love walking and had stayed away from running as I often had trouble with my knees. One fine day after getting motivated to lose some weight I decided to go jogging. I bought an expensive pair of the best running shoes and took them for a test drive. I must have run for not more than ten minutes when I felt a dull pain at the front, inner part of the heel and under the arch of my right foot.

I thought to myself that it will go away in a couple of weeks by itself. But the pain was persistent. I had pain when I walked or any activity involving being on the feet. I used to get a sharp pain especially when I woke up and got out of the bed in the morning. I did some reading on the symptoms and here is what I found out.

What is Plantar Fasciitis?

Plantar fascia is a strong piece of tissue at the bottom of the foot. It’s job is to keep the bones of the feet in position. It runs from the heel under the feet and spreads across the ball of the feet. When a portion of this tissue is strained, there is pain around the front, inner part of the heel. This pain may also be felt under the arch.

Different symptoms of Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar Fasciitis injury starts gradually. I used to feel the pain when I first got out of bed. The pain would then go away for a while. After I sat down at my desk for a while and got up, the pain would return. According to my research I found out that when you sit or sleep the tissues are healing and as soon as you step on them they tear again. That’s why this can take a long time to heal. In my case it took eight months . This is a common malady with the runners. The muscles of the feet get tired and cannot function properly in supporting the arch, the weight then falls on the fascia, which is not meant to handle this pressure. This causes strain and tearing. If you grab your foot that is in question by your hand and put your thumb on the front, inner portion of the heel, you will feel the pain.

Treatment of Plantar Fasciitis-What you can do to get relief

Ben E. Benjamin in his book with Dr. Gale Borden recommends wearing a heel lift in all your shoes. It must be thick enough to take the weight off the injured foot. Wear this all the time when you are on your feet even when you get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. You don’t want to put pressure and tear the tissues. You may have to do this for a few months as the tissues heal. Avoid athletic activities for a couple of weeks and continue wearing the lift. There are various lifts and devices you can find at a drugstore. You may also want to seek out a podiatrist to make a custom made arch support. Avoid jumping ropes, trampoline jumping or running until your symptoms are gone.

I had to get a Corticosteroid shot a couple of times from my podiatrist. He also asked me to stand on my toes on the steps of a staircase with my heel hanging in air for 5 to 10 minutes a day. Please consult with your Podiatrist when you can start to do this. It took me eight months to get rid of the pain totally.

Good bye for now! Here’s to a pain free life. Cheers!

Tips and Tricks to sit longer without pain and Discomfort.

Exercises for back to help you sit longer without pain. Here is a video showing five simple and effective exercises to help you sit longer at your desk, car, plane, movies, concerts or anywhere.

Our body was designed to keep moving. But in this age of computers and Facebook we don’t realize how much we sit until we feel the stiffness in our spine, neck, lower back and numbness on our tail bone.

Secrets from my Chiropractor – Simple Tips to avoid Back Pain, Stiffness and Fatigue

Refrain from watching television in bed or on a sofa when lying down.

When sitting at a computer, sit up straight, (C-Curve in the middle of your back). Try not to lean back on the back rest as this misaligns the spine. Use a small lumbar support in the middle of the back if needed. You can lean back for a minute to relax and then come back to sit up straight.

Make sure your chin is lined up at the middle of the computer screen. If using a laptop, get a stand to lift it and get a separate keyboard to place on the desk. Also, the keyboard should align at right angle with your arms. There should be no strain on your wrist. If you feel a strain at your wrist, then get an adjustable keyboard tray. These extra steps go a long way to avoid wrist pain, tendonitis, shoulder, neck and back pain.

Try to get up and walk around every 10 to 20 minutes or when you feel yourself getting stiff.

If you have back problems avoid crossing your legs and try to stand on both feet instead of putting all the weight on one leg.

Get some kind of stretching or yoga program going! Meditation and breathing help.

If you talk on the phone a lot or more than a minute, then get headsets immediately. Neck problems trickle down and affect the whole spine and are cause of migraines and back troubles.

Sitting on a Sofa or recliner with your neck against the neck rest or the back restricts the movement of the neck. Alexander Technique recommends keeping the neck free. This simple awareness can go a long way in keeping the spine straight. If you feel lazy and sloppy then don’t sit on a sofa, just lie down in bed instead. Look for an Alexander Technique teacher in your area who can teach you other simple habits to a healthy back.

I have been a student of The Alexander Technique and Moshe Feldenkrais for many years. These simple movements and techniques are a good solution to relieve back stiffness and will allow you to sit longer in comfort.

A good book to explore other Feldenkrais techniques is “Relaxercise” by David Zemach-Bersen and Kaethe Zemach- Bersin. Also, my special thanks to Dr. Frank Wildman, former president of the Feldenkrais® Guild of North America, who through his books and videos has been an inspiration to me. And a shout out to Richard Hamre, my Alexander Technique trainer for many years.

I showed some of the movements to my Mom who was suffering from frozen shoulders and lower back pain and could not sit for long. She could not even raise her hands or comb her hair. Her Orthopedic Surgeon had recommended surgery. But within two to four weeks of doing these simple movements she did not need the surgery and she was fine.

I sit at my desk every day at work for 6 to 7 hours and then go home and sit some more to watch the news or TV. These exercises were a lifesaver. You can do them once or twice a day. I have included them in my yoga and exercise routine in the morning. Sometimes I do one or two again in the day if I feel my back getting stiff at work or in the car. Another good time to do them is while watching TV.

Also, check out the Extended Comfort Seat Pad with LiquiCell technology.

It’s a thin pad with the innovative LiquiCell Technology. It is similar to a gel seat cushion but different in the sense that it uses ultra-thin liquid filled membranes specifically designed to provide long-term seating comfort. It keeps the blood flowing at the point of contact between you and the sitting surface, thus providing improved long-term seating comfort by reducing and even eliminating fatigue, numbness, fidgeting and tail burn.

You can also look for LiquiCell Technology in the $3000 office chair by Recaro, where the Seat Pad comes built-in, in the chair’s seating surface. LiquiCell is now being used in a variety of products from Florsheim shoes, kayak seats, gardening gloves etc.

Also check out the Walk on Water Insoles with Liquicell. These insoles are so thin and yet so effective. You can be on your feet all day long and not get tired. They also don’t change the fit of your shoes because the technology allows them to be thin. Check out the LiquiCell Video to learn more about the technology

Here is what some of the users have to say about the LiquiCell Extended Comfort Seat Pad:

“I spend long hours at the computer and find the Extended Comfort Seat Pad extremely comfortable and very effective in alleviating the pressure of prolonged sitting. I move it all over the house wherever I sit, at my computer, watching TV or eating. The comfort level is beyond description. It is ultra-thin and portable. I took it to the movies with me and what a difference. There wasn’t any discomfort after sitting for 2 hours. I would recommend this seat pad for everyone.” Cathy Bruen on Amazon.com

“I got the Gel Seat Cushion by LiquiCell to use in my writing class which had hard chairs. I found I could sit for hours without fidgeting. My tail bone did not get numb. I started to take it everywhere with me. And the funny thing is I also use it on my recliner at home. It is amazing for such a thin product. I also use their Walk on Water Insoles with the LiquiCell Technology in my walking shoes. I can walk longer without getting tired. I just found out Florsheim shoes come with LiquiCell built in the shoe. I highly recommend the Seat Pad for anyone who has to sit for long periods of time.” As reviewed on: Yahoo Review for LiquiCell Seat Pad

“At first I thought this seat pad was too thin to be effective and was tempted to send it back. However, I tried it for a few hours and then took it away to see if I could tell the difference. Wow! I became a believer. It is great if you are sitting at the computer most of the day.” As reviewed on: Yahoo Review for LiquiCell Seat Pad

Advice on choosing the correct width and size

When you go shopping for shoes, just realize that not all shoes are created according to the size mentioned on the shoe. Just because it says size 7 doesn’t mean that it will fit you if you’re a size 7.

It is always good to ask to see the shoe you like in three sizes; within half a size of the size you are. Which means if you are a size 7, then ask for 6 ½, 7 & 7 ½ shoes. Another way to pick the right shoe size is to ask to be measured. Your feet may fluctuate in size. You may have gained weight or may be pregnant. This can affect not only the size from toe to heel but also the width. Never get a pair of shoes if it is tight on either side. You should be able to play piano with your toes.

Shopping for Shoes in the evening is the best time to get your correct shoe size

A good idea is to go shopping for shoes in the evening. Feet swell once you are walking a few hours. The size of your feet may not be the same in the morning compared to evening. Tight shoe in the toe area cause blisters and can misshape your feet causing defects like hammer toes. If you have different size feet, then buy the shoes according to the size of the biggest foot. Avoid future surgeries by taking the time to really feel the shoe before you buy. Walk around the store for 5 to 15 minutes.

If the shoes are not comfortable then don’t buy them!

If you can’t seem to find the size that you feel comfortable in, then look for shoe places that make custom size shoes. These are usually places that also make custom orthotics.

Wearing the shoe for a while before buying ensures proper foot comfort

Often the shoe may feel comfortable the moment you wear it, but after you have it on for 10 to 15 minutes then you may begin to feel the pressure points at places around your little toe and big toe. You may also notice pressure on the ball of the feet. It may be hurting the tendons. It is good to invest in a pair of after-market insoles. Often the manufacturers don’t put a thought for comfort. Most of the shoes are designed to look good. A good pair of shoe insoles that provides the proper comfort and shield the ball of your feet and the heel can go a long way in keeping you from getting sore and tired feet at the end of the day.

Always wear or bring along the socks you’ll be wearing when buying shoes.

Anatomy of a Well Made Shoe

Rubber Insoles and Leather uppers are the best options to look for when buying shoes. The Soles should be flexible and bend with your steps. They should have enough cushion to shield the tendons and tissues from the vertical pressure of impact when we walk.

They should have proper arch support. High heels should only be worn for short periods of time. Always bring a pair of flats along so that you can quickly change if high heels begin to bother you. High heels are known to cramp your toes. Your posture is affected and can cause all kind of pains in the ankle, knees and back.

How often should you change the shoes?

If you wear a pair of shoe on a regular basis then try the same pair of new shoes approximately after six months to see if you see a difference in comfort and get the new pair accordingly. You can also try buying a different model or type of a second pair of shoes to alternate.

Don’t buy a bunch of shoes that you are not going to wear often. The material ages and may not provide you the support needed. Once I tried a pair of a famous brand of expensive shoes that I didn’t wear for 4 years and found that the bottom just gave out after I took a few steps. The rubber soles just disintegrated.

It is recommended that you get a different pair for different activities like work, tennis, aerobics or walking etc. Always use wooden sweat absorbing shoe trees to keep the shape and keep the shoes odor free.

In closing, choose the shoes that will protect your feet according to the activity on hand. Your feet should feel natural when walking. There should be no pain on impact. Be aware of any pain you may feel around your ankle, knees or back when wearing a particular pair as compared to a pair that doesn’t cause pain. Take care of your feet. You have miles to go…..Here’s to happy times on Planet Earth.

We have all heard that the best way to get back in shape is to lead a balanced life. But what is balanced life? Where do you want to go? STOP!
Look at where you are.
How do you look?
Are you happy with the body you have?
Are you lonely, out of work, any physical disability?

The first thing to do is accept yourself as you are at the present moment. Leave the past behind. Read about people who have been in similar situations like you are and who have overcome their troubles and have succeeded. If they can do it, then you can too.

Now that you have taken account of the situation you are in, let’s start.

See a Nutritionist – Proper Fuel
A good place to start is to see what kind of fuel you are providing your body. If we compare our body to an automobile we come to know that if we don’t put the proper gasoline and oil in it then we are not going to get anywhere. Write down exactly what you eat during the entire day in a diary. Do this for 7 days. If you belong to a Health insurance plan, then ask your doctor that you want to see a nutritionist. Show the nutritionist the diary of all the food you consumed for seven days and ask her/him to analyze the calories, fat grams, fiber needed for your body type. Looking at the information you provided will make it easier for the nutritionist to point out the areas which need improvement.

They may recommend a daily calorie intake according to your body type of let’s say 1800 or 2000 calories a day depending on your height, weight and activities. You may be consuming 3 slices of Pizza, with buffalo wings and garlic sticks a couple of times a week for lunch (about 2500 calories), when you were supposed to have only 400 calories. A nutritionist can also help you plan a balanced meal. Example: Half a plate of vegetables, quarter plate starch, like potatoes, brown rice or grain and quarter plate protein. Protein can be lean meat, fish or lentils or beans if you are a vegetarian.
Eating a balance meal like this can keep you satisfied and not crave for junk food. Plan healthy snacks.

Taking care of your Physical Side – Becoming Strong
Get a personal trainer if you can afford one or seek out a companion. Write down your goals of what kind of improvement you want. Let the trainer know your limitations like shoulder pain, back pain or knee pain etc. You don’t want to jump in gung ho, only to quit the second day. If you have disabilities, then a trainer can start you with the best routine according to your abilities.

Activities for a Sound Body
• Walking, Treadmill, Bicycle, Elliptical, running can be used for Cardiovascular Health
• Free Weight, Band, Exercise machines for strength training
• Yoga, Tai Chih, Qi Gong for flexibility
• Outdoor activities can be added like Hiking Kayaking, Mountain Climbing or Rowing.

Mental Health – Activities for Mental Health and Satisfaction
• Read self-help books on the subjects that interest you.
• Take a meditation class. It is known to lower blood pressure, improves digestion, and calms the mind. It removes tension and help us get a good night’s sleep.
• Walk in nature. A walk by the sea or in the woods brings you closer to nature and your inner self.
• Join a social networking group of like-minded people where you can exchange ideas and grow.
• Take up a hobby like playing the guitar or any instrument that interests you, painting, crocheting, home improvement, gardening etc.
• Take out time for connecting with friends and loved one. This is even more important in this busy and hectic life. Months can go by and suddenly you realize you haven’t talked with your loved ones who live probably only minutes away.
• Travel to exciting places. Take day trips often to different locations you have never been or a place that give you joy.
• Change jobs or careers if the one you are in is not mentally challenging or you are not happy with.
• Do some volunteer work or service where you can make a difference in your community.

Our time here is limited. Make an action plan to achieve maximum effectiveness. Write down your goals and set a reasonable time to achieve them. Be disciplined. Outline your action plan and start on it. Maintain focus. Visualize the person you want to be when you meditate and soon you will become that person.

There you have – A balanced approach to get back in shape! As you regain your health you will have more energy to achieve your dreams. You will move forward with renewed vitality and realize your goals.

MAY YOU ACHIEVE THE PERFECT HEALTH AND LIVE A LONG AND HEALTHY LIFE!

Foot Pain can result from injuries, repeated trauma, and disease like diabetes or just by wearing the wrong kind of shoes. When selecting shoes make sure that they are not too tight. High heels can cause pain at different areas of the feet especially around the balls of the feet. Pay attention to any bruises at the top of the feet.

Most of the injuries occur when someone suddenly decides to take up jogging. Without proper warming up and conditioning you can get Planter’s Fasciitis. The plantar fascia, a tough fibrous sheath under your feed lends support to the arch. When this is damaged, is becomes inflamed and causes arch pain.

Athletes foot, fungi, diabetes are common causes of Foot Pain. Look out for blisters in the form of burning sensations between the toes or around the feet. These can cause infection. Ingrown toe nails also can cause redness.

When to go for treatment for Feet Disorders
If pain is interfering with you daily activities you should immediately seek professional help. Take notice and look for areas of swelling, toenail infection or change in color or areas that are tender to the touch.

The Medical or foot doctor can do an evaluation and check your feet, ankles, arches etc. They can also notice the way you walk and identify any abnormalities in your movement. They can also order X-Rays or MRI if needed.

Follow the treatment recommended. It can be proper rest, applying ice, over the counter medications to help reduce the pain.

Other Remedies for Feet Pain
Proper Footwear or improved Insoles- Replace shoes every six months of heavy use or get specialty insoles to reduce impact with ground and add additional cushion.

Always do some kind of walking warm up exercises before walking or if you know you are going to be on your feet for a long time. After a week spend a few minutes doing some cool down stretches. This is very important as it relaxes the tired tendons and muscles and helps in recovery.

Don’t neglect your feet. Follow up with your doctor until you see the symptoms go away and you are back on your feet.
